Brightening Up the Heart of the Home: A Kitchen Renovation Journey

When our clients told us their kitchen felt more like a dungeon than the heart of their home, we knew we had a mission: brighten, uplift, and create a space where they’d actually want to hang out. With that in mind, we embarked on a kitchen renovation that was all about transforming darkness into light—literally and metaphorically!

First Order of Business: Bye-Bye, Windows?

Now, it might sound counterintuitive, but one of the first things we did to brighten up this space was... remove the windows. But these weren’t your average windows; they were awkwardly placed in the backsplash, making it hard to work around them. Let’s be real: no one wants to peer outside while battling grease splatter from the stove! Instead, we opted to fill the space with gorgeous design details that not only opened up the kitchen but made it feel much lighter and more cohesive.

Raise the Roof! (Okay, Just the Ceiling)

Next up, we removed the existing ceiling detail and added some extra height. Nothing says “bright and airy” like more vertical space! That extra few inches made a world of difference, instantly making the kitchen feel larger, taller, and much more welcoming. Plus, who doesn’t love a little extra room for tall cabinets and, more importantly, for kitchen dance parties?

Cabinets: Where White Meets Warm

For the cabinetry, we went for a sophisticated mix. The island and lower perimeter cabinets were crafted from white rift oak, bringing in a light, natural texture that balanced warmth with brightness. The uppers were painted a crisp white to keep things light up top, while the contrasting black metal doors with clear glass detailing added a modern, chic vibe. The glass allowed for a glimpse of carefully arranged dishes and glassware, keeping the kitchen both functional and stylish.

Marble + Tile = Dreamy Backsplash

Of course, we couldn’t talk about this renovation without highlighting the new countertops and backsplash. We went for marble countertops that stretched all the way up into a marble shelf with tile backsplash climbing to the ceiling. Because more storage is always a win, we added a full-width ledge that runs along the kitchen, perfect for those extra items you don’t want cluttering your counters. The combination added both texture and elegance while bouncing light around the room—mission “brighten the space” accomplished! With the sleek, soft veins of marble and the glossy tile, the entire kitchen practically sparkles.

The Hood Fan: A Star is Born

Our clients wanted a hood fan that didn’t just blend into the background but stood out as a statement piece. So, we custom-designed a metal-fabricated hood fan with a powder-coated finish. It’s sleek, it’s bold, and it adds an industrial edge to the otherwise bright and polished space. Functional? Absolutely. Eye-catching? You bet.

A Few Extra Details

Finally, the kitchen was polished off with stunning champagne bronze plumbing hardware. It’s a subtle touch of glam, like the cherry on top of a kitchen sundae. Along side it, a fully re-vamed seating area that ties in all the elements of home.

By the end of this renovation, the kitchen had gone from dark and gloomy to bright, modern, and an absolute joy to cook in. With its fresh mix of materials, custom details, and thoughtful design, this space now radiates light, warmth, and personality. And the best part? Our clients love spending time there—exactly as it should be.
